Benjamin Gitterman, MD

Robin Madden, M.D. Ph.D., F.A.A.P. has been with Discovery Pediatrics since 1994. She was a long-time student at several schools:  Brandeis University (undergraduate)  The University of Maryland ( Ph.D. in Clinical Community Psychology), The University of Pennsylvania (Post-Baccalaureate pre-medical program)  and finally George Washington University Medical school (M.D.).   She did her Pediatric Residency at Children’s National Hospital in D.C. 

She is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. She is board certified in Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics and serves on that Board helping to created maintenance of certification testing for Pediatricians to remain Board Certified. 

She has severed several leadership positions at Holy Cross Hospital, including Chair of the Department of Pediatrics, President of Hospital Medical Staff, and serving on the Board of Trustees for Trinity Mid-Atlantic. She has been awarded “Top Doc” multiple times. 

She is married to another Pediatrician, and has two children, one is the Associate Director of Emergency Medicine  at Weill Cornell Lower Manhattan. and the other works in the film industry in Los Angeles. Her favorite hobbies include reading, cooking and travel.

Robin Madden, MD Ph.D

Benjamin Gitterman, MD is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at George Washington University and Children’s National Medical Center and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has been part of Discovery Pediatrics since 2000.

His professional interests include Pediatric Primary Care and Community Pediatrics. Over the course of his career, he has served as Chair of the Department of Pediatrics at Holy Cross Hospital, Chair of the Executive Committee of the National Council on Community Pediatrics of AAP and past President of the DC Chapter of the AAP.

He has also been deeply involved in the field of Pediatric Environmental Health, founding and co-directing the Pediatric Environmental Health Specialty Unit (PEHSU), a federally funded regional center dedicated to protecting children from environmental health hazards.

His work has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Residency Teaching Award from the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and recognition as a “Top Doctor” in Washingtonian magazine.

In his free time, he enjoys traveling, singing choral music, and spending time with his dog, Telly.

Rikiara Brown, MD

Dr. Brown is a pediatrician originally from Baltimore, Maryland. She earned her medical degree from the Howard University College of Medicine and complete her pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Brown has a special interest in newborn and adolescent care, sexual education and STI prevention, and helping kids and teens build healthy habits around nutrition and physical activity.

Known for her thoughtful communication style and commitment to health equity, Dr. Brown is passionate about creating a welcoming, inclusive space where families feel supported and heard.

When she is not seeing patients, Dr. Brown enjoys spending time with her family, partner, and friends. She loves to travel, cook, and catch live music — Especially when Beyoncé is on tour!

Nurse Practitioner 

Alyssa Hamburger, NP

Alyssa Hamburger, FNP has worked in pediatric medicine since graduating from James Madison University in 2018. She began her nursing career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at Children’s National Medical Center before transitioning to the Mother–Baby Unit at Sibley Memorial Hospital.

After earning her Nurse Practitioner degree from George Washington University, Alyssa worked in the Bethesda area as a pediatric primary care provider. She is a member of both the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.

As a mother of twins, Alyssa is especially passionate about supporting families as they navigate the newborn phase of life. She strives to collaborate closely with physicians and parents to help every child grow up happy and healthy.

In her spare time, Alyssa enjoys volunteering with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and traveling. She can often be found at a local playground with her twins or pushing a double stroller along the Capital Crescent Trail.
